Senior Interior Designer - Jamaica
Kingston 10,
Jamaica
Job Title: Senior Interior Designer
Organisation: Dwellings Group
Location: Kingston, Jamaica
Reports To: Country Manager
About The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Interior Designer who can bring together strong creative vision and real commercial drive. In this role, you’ll work closely with clients to understand their needs, develop beautiful and practical design solutions, and guide projects from first consultation through to final delivery.
You’ll also play an important part in growing the Design Studio by building relationships, identifying new opportunities, generating leads, preparing proposals and closing sales. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys design, client service and business development, and can manage their own projects, pipeline and targets with confidence.
Key Accountabilities
1. Commercial Performance
- Deliver the assigned annual sales target and gross margin target for the Senior Interior Designer's own portfolio.
- Own a pipeline from prospect to completion, generating leads, following up opportunities, closing sales and ensuring healthy conversion and predictable forward revenue.
- Maintain a live project register in the Company systems classifying assigned Design Studio engagements by status (Prospect, Proposal Issued, Won, In Progress, Installed, Completed, Lost / Cancelled) with current value and expected close date.
- Report weekly on pipeline movement, won and lost business, risks and forecast to the Country Manager.
- Ensure all sales proposals, quotations and sales orders are produced using Company-approved systems, pricing tools and margin controls, with no off-system pricing or unauthorised discounting.
2. Client Experience and Design Delivery
- Lead client consultations to establish brief, budget, timeline and functional requirements, ensuring expectations are clearly set from the outset.
- Produce floor plans, sample boards, mood boards and presentations using CAD or equivalent tools, to Dwellings brand and quality standards.
- Ensure every assigned project is delivered on brief, on time and on budget, with documented sign-offs at the key project stages.
- Personally own assigned client accounts from consultation through design, proposal, sale, installation and completion.
- Oversee final installation on site for assigned projects to confirm the project meets the approved design and Dwellings' quality standard.
- Resolve client issues and complaints promptly, escalating to the Country Manager where they carry financial, legal or reputational exposure.
3. Special Order and Inventory Discipline
- Ensure all special order items for assigned projects are specified accurately at the point of order and meet the agreed client specification on arrival, with documented verification before client delivery.
- Where a special order item connected to an assigned project is changed, cancelled or rejected by the client, support resolution by first seeking to repurpose the item into another live Design Studio project; failing that, support transfer of the item to the retail showroom for sale in coordination with the Country Manager and the relevant Retail Buyer, with clear ownership and timeline for clearance.
- Work with the Buying team to provide forward-looking forecasts of retail stock requirements that assigned Design Studio projects are likely to draw on, especially where projected quantities are material relative to planned retail sell-through, so that retail inventory plans account for Design Studio demand.
- Monitor inventory allocated to assigned projects, including samples, held stock and project-committed stock. Help prevent the build-up of aged or obsolete inventory through active clearance, re-allocation or retail transfer.
- Escalate all special order commitments above the Group-approved Delegation of Authority threshold for Country Manager sign-off and ensure confirmed client deposit is in place before commitment.
4. Customer Accounts, Credit and Cash Collection
- Ensure customer payments on assigned Design Studio projects are collected in line with Company policy and the signed contract terms, including deposit, progress and final payments.
- Maintain customer account balances for assigned projects within approved credit terms. No project is to progress to special order commitment, delivery or installation outside of documented payment milestones without written Country Manager approval.
- Work with the Finance team to flag and resolve any overdue balances on assigned projects, and to ensure revenue recognition and invoicing align with Company policy.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date customer and order records in Odoo at all times.
5. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with the Buying team on product selection, special order feasibility, lead times and forward forecasts.
- Work with the Logistics and Warehouse team to confirm order status, delivery schedules, installation resourcing and post-delivery client confirmation.
- Work with the Retail teams to coordinate stock transfers, showroom clearance of redirected special orders, and joint promotion of the Design Studio through the retail footprint.
- Work with the Marketing and Brand team on Design Studio collateral, client events, developer outreach, project features and social content.
- Participate in relevant project, commercial and operational meetings as requested by the Country Manager.
6. Compliance, Systems and Controls
- Use Odoo or other Group standard tool as the single system of record for all assigned Design Studio proposals, sales orders, purchase orders, stock movements and customer accounts.
- Adhere to the Group Delegation of Authority matrix for proposal approval, special order commitment, discount approval and stock movement.
- Maintain confidentiality of client, supplier and commercial information in line with the Employment Agreement and Company policies.
- Comply with all Company policies including the Design Studio Commission Policy as applicable to the Senior Interior Designer's own sales and projects.
7. Market, Trends and Business Development
- Maintain current knowledge of interior design trends, product innovation and market movement relevant to the country.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, architects, corporate/commercial contacts and key referral sources to identify prospects, generate qualified leads, convert proposals and close business.
- Feed market intelligence on products, competitors and pricing back to the Buying team and Country Manager for commercial planning.
Role Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4+ years' experience in interior design, ideally within a design-led retail, residential, hospitality or commercial environment.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering commercial sales targets in a design-led retail or hospitality environment.
- Proven experience managing special order processes and working with procurement / buying teams.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp or equivalent) to the level of producing client-ready visuals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel at an intermediate or above level.
- Working proficiency in Odoo or equivalent ERP platforms for sales order, inventory and customer account management. Training will be provided on Group-specific configuration.
- Strong cost estimating and proposal writing ability.
Professional and Personal Attributes
- Commercially literate, with clear judgement on the margin implications of design decisions, inventory commitments and credit extensions.
- Proactive, sales-oriented and confident in prospecting, developing leads, following up opportunities and closing business.
- Excellent client-facing presence, with the maturity to handle significant customer accounts with appropriate Country Manager escalation where required.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, capable of running multiple concurrent projects.
- High standard of personal integrity in handling customer commitments, supplier relationships and commission calculations.
Other Requirements
- Own reliable transport for client visits, site attendance and inter-store travel.
- Willingness to work the operating pattern of the Company, including occasional evening and weekend work as required to meet client and project commitments.
